Frequently Asked Questions

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?
The Mpumalanga Helicopter Company is based at Hippo Hollow Country Estate, in Hazyview, Mpumalanga.

WHAT TIME AND ON WHAT DAYS DO YOU FLY?
We fly seven days a week, usually starting operations from 8:00am and finish at 6:00pm (in summer) and 5:00pm (in winter). We can schedule flight times to suit your lodge/camp itinerary.

WHAT TIME DO WE NEED TO ARRIVE?
You will need to arrive 15 minutes before take-off to receive the indemnity ticket and for a safety briefing.

HOW LONG WILL THE FLIGHT BE?
We provide a guideline on the flight duration, relevant to your chosen scenic flight.
Please note that the route may alter slightly due to ever changing weather conditions. Our pilots are trained to include specific attractions and to provide the best viewing experience for all passengers.

WHAT HELICOPTER WILL WE FLY IN?
We operate our scenic flights, transfers and charters in two types of helicopters.
For four passengers or less, a Bell 206 Jet Ranger will be used which can seat one passenger up front, and three in the back.
For five passengers or more, two Jet Rangers will be used OR we have the option of using the Bell 206 Long Ranger. The Long Ranger can seat a maximum of six passengers; one in the front and five in the back.

IS IT SAFE?
Your safety is our first priority. Our duty is to minimise risk by making safety our primary focus while at the same time provide memorable experiences for our passengers.

Our commitment is to exceed guest expectations for a ‘once in a lifetime’ flight. We believe this is achievable with a combination of experienced pilots with vast local knowledge, highly maintained aircraft and outstanding, friendly service.

IS THERE A WEIGHT RESTRICTION FOR HELICOPTERS?
All helicopters have weight limitations; either per seat or for combined weight.
It is important for us to have all passenger’s weight prior to the flight. Helicopters are also space limited and we may restrict on-board luggage.
Decisions on weight and luggage restrictions are at the pilot’s discretion, and are final.
Maximum weight per seat in Bell 206 Jet Ranger is 140kg and/or an average of 85kg across the four seats OR at the pilot’s discretion.
Maximum weight per seat in Bell 206 Long Ranger is 140kg and/or an average of 75kg across the six seats OR at the pilot’s discretion.
Should the weight limitation be exceeded; we reserve the right to upgrade to a bigger helicopter at the passenger’s expense, or one passenger can choose not to fly.

IS THERE AN AGE RESTRICTION FOR PASSENGERS?
There are no age restrictions. Children under the age of three years can sit on their parent’s/guardians lap.
Children over the age of three must occupy their own seat.

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE WEATHER IS BAD AND WE CAN’T FLY?
We will be able to make an accurate decision on the day of your flight if we can proceed as planned or if the routes or timing need to be changed. If we are unable to postpone your flight and cannot fly due to weather related reasons, you will receive a full refund.

WOULD YOU PREFER A WINDOW SEAT?
Mpumalanga Helicopters guarantees window seats for up to 5 passengers depending on the aircraft. All flights are private, it’s you and your pilot!

CAN WE FLY OVER THE KRUGER NATIONAL PARK?
We are not permitted to fly over the Kruger Park as it is a National Park and as such is a protected area with restricted airspace.

HOW CAN WE PAY?
We accept all major credit cards or you are welcome to pay via a direct bank transfer.
You can make your booking directly online and pay via our online payment portal.

WHAT SHOULD WE BRING?
Bring your camera and have a fresh set of batteries and extra memory card.
